In this section, we feature an outstanding Manila Jaycee member who as epitomized the motto, "Entrepreneurs in Action" either as a career professional in pursuit of his craft, or as a pioneering business executive in pursuit of his dreams. In the path that he has chosen to tread, he has become a living example of Jayceeism at its best. JOHANSON D. CHENG : Following a Role Model - A True Leader and anInspiration in His Life To be recognized as an effective leader in society and to be part of the most revered leadership development organization in the country and in Asia, which is JCI Philippines-Manila (Manila Jaycees), is certainly no small feat.

When I joined this prestigious organization, I was just fresh out of college. After undertaking my Baby Jaycee Project, I was immediately appointed as Co-chairman for the International Affairs Committee that took charge of organizing the delegation's trip to the 58th JCI World Congress in Las Vegas . At the same time, I was involved in the Meetings and Fellowship Committees. Being part of this prestigious chapter was a dream come true for me. At a very young age of 21, I was already part of the seven-time "Best Chapter of the World!" What is excellent about my experience in Manila Jaycees was the fact that I was given the opportunity for much creativity and innovation.

The leadership training allows me to dream big. Through the Jaycees, I learned to fend for myself, become resourceful and street-smart. I started my career as a banker in China Banking Corporation before I was "pirated" by Standard Chartered Bank and Citigroup The ..1 Financial Institution Around the World . To serve the needs of the Filipino Chinese community is my goal. Who I am today is the result of the personal values I learned by being trustworthy, courageous, responsive and creative. My Jaycee experience over the past years was all about business networking that encompasses all local, national and international areas. By being proactive, I learned everything by going back to basics: writing, selling, phone etiquette, basic finance, business law for professionals, relationships between business owners and employees and, especially, on entrepreneurship --- as we are taught to be "Entrepreneurs in Action."

Here, I also appreciated the basics of leadership through the Vanguard leadership training program. Hopefully, I can also be a good trainer by taking "Prime" and "Excel" Coaching Programs in JCI. I can say that I love to stay with the Manila Jaycees because of my personal development and confidence I got for being part of this organization. I gained concrete exposure to all sorts of people including well-known political and business personalities and learned how to deal with the "not so lovable." Through the Jaycees, I have learned to always think big, dream big, and work big! And I believe that I would not be where I am right now because of the Jaycees. Hopefully, my continuing perspective in life would be to serve and
love our Lord, my God my personal savior. He is my inspiration in my daily life and He is the only way the truth and the Life.

An academically gifted student, he was one of the select industrial design student delegates sent by his school to the Industrial Design Forum held in Sydney, Australia from 1999 to 2000 (Biennial Congress of International Council Of Societies of Industrial Design). When he graduated in 2000, he was conferred one of the Ten (10) most outstanding student leaders of all school organizations with the COPS Bahaghari Award in De La Salle University. He was also part of the honor roll in Jubilee Christian Academy high school and a five-fime Dean's Lister in College. At work, he was a conscientious model employee, having earned consistent quarterly sales awards in the banking institutions he worked for.
