Water Hyacinth is usually mistaken as Waterlily, when in fact they are two different plants. Yes, Estelle is right the plants floating around Pasig river are water hyacinths. Too much of it in the rivers actually destroys or weakens the life of the river. Business-wise, some organizations harvest the water hyacinth let them dry and use them to make eco-friendly products such as boxes, bags, furniture, holders, etc. One of our counselors in Taguig actually has a "waterlily" production office where they train mothers to create products out of water hyacinths. It's a great advocacy really since it hits two birds with one stone. It saves the rivers and it gives livelihood.
